I have been spinning on a wheel since the age of 8, when my best friend's mom taught me to spin. I was hooked! I asked for a wheel for the holidays, and received my very own Ashford Kiwi! I raised angora rabbits and processed sheeps' wool from start to finish. I experimented with foraged plant-based dyes. When I was 13 I participated in my first sheep to shawl competition- that’s where this picture is from! In college I helped found a spinners' guild where we processed and spun local fibers.
I am back spinning now that my daughter is old enough to stop sticking her fingers into my wheel. I am an elementary school teacher, and have shared my love of spinning by teaching students to make their own drop spindles and dye wool with Kool-Ade. In my own fiber art, I love both the natural colors of the fibers, and colorful rainbow dyes in nature-inspired colorways. I am a knitter, but when I am home I love the quiet rhythm of treadling my wheel.
